The Benue State Government has ordered the immediate arrest of anyone operating illegal check points across the State following a ghastly motor accident which claimed 3 lives around Utange in Ushongu Local Government Area of the State.

Acting Chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Sunday Odagba gave the directive when he visited the scene of the accident, equally solicited the support of traditional leaders to help fish out perpetrators.

Odagba said the illegal road blocks do not just deprive the State of revenue that is supposed to accrue from Produce taxes, but also serves as an easy hideout for bandits who lay in wait.

The Benue State government is concerned that such illegal road blocks, like the one in Akerior, Utange in Ushongo Local Government Area which has led to a ghastly motor accident that claimed lives, have become notorious and constitute security threats to the people.

This has therefore attracted the attention of the State Government with the Acting Chairman of the Revenue Board, Sunday Odagba, accompanied by the Commander Operation, Zenda Ernest Aker visit the District Heads of Utange and Mbayer where they solicited their supports in flushing out the criminal elements perpetrating the act in their domain.

In March this year, the State Government had ordered the dismantling of illegal roadblocks/check points, but they appear to have resurfaced again at several locations across the State.
