The Benue State Government has disclosed plans to offer free snakebite treatment for indigenes, to reduce the burden of the high cost of treatment on victims who are predominantly poor farmers.
Governor Samuel Ortom who at a personal level sponsors the treatment of victims of snake bites explained that as an issue of state concern, he intends that the state government will take over the sponsorship.

A fundraising appeal for the intervention in schools and hospitals, under the Resource And Planning Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, attracted the number one citizen and other top government functionaries.
In his sermon, the Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Wilfred Anagbe, preached against vices such as envy and jealousy.
The high point of the service was the inauguration of Deaneries from across the Diocese by the Catholic Bishop.
