Slightly over a month after it downed tools itemising demands that must be met Resident Doctors at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH Makurdi led by their President Kawen Pededoo have called on the Benue State Governor to come to the rescue of the institution.
The Resident Doctors made the call during a media briefing at the health facility demanding among several others improved living conditions.
In a swift reaction, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Stephen Hwande issued a three-month notice to the Resident Doctors to vacate their quarters for comprehensive renovation.
The hospital is still striving to become a one-stop medical facility of international standard under the Governor Hyacinth Alia-led administration, however series of strike by its Residents Doctors continue to be a clog in the wheel.
Their long list of grievances by the Resident Doctors include poor living conditions. While they insist that the issues leading to the industrial action have lingered for long, the CMD, Dr. Hwande says some of the demands were only recently introduced.
The Resident Doctors however acknowledge the State Governor’s interventions so far and appealed to him to once again intervene to end the protracted industrial action so that the institution can meet its target of becoming a world class medical hub.
