The Benue State Government says it remains steadfast in its commitment to repatriating internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes noting that the state is collaborating with partners to ensure it is done within a short timeframe.
The state governor Hyacinth Alia made this known while signing a memoradum of understanding with plan international
aimed at addressing identified needs of some IDPs through the provision of protection services, multipurpose cash transfers, and distribution of non-food items.
The intervention is estimated to reach approximately 15,000 project participants within a 45-day implementation timeframe, covering five identified Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ukum, Logo, Kwande, Agatu, and Apa.
The governor hopes the intervention would provide durable solutions for the internally displaced persons as well as support for the bureau for international cooperation and Development BICD in running a successful humanitarian and situation room where other departments and agencies can access centralised data.
Alia called on all stakeholders to unite in addressing the humanitarian needs of the people so that a difference can be made to ensure no one is left behind.
