BENUE
Benue State Governor, Dr. Hycincth Alia

Benue State Government has approved the establishment of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs farming communities, with each of the registered 56,000 households owning a hectare of land.

The resettlement plan for the IDPs is designed to ensure the restoration of their sources of livelihood and also boost economic growth.

Benue State though Nigeria’s food basket continues to face an escalating humanitarian crisis caused by persistent attacks, forced displacements and inadequate living conditions which threatens food security.

A worrisome development the State Government through the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs tries to reverse with visits the IOM mega IDP camp in Makurdi to finalise arrangements for the launch of the durable solutions.

Bunde Magdalene has been displaced since 2018 and she appreciates the upgrade from her previous camp.

Director-General, Bureau of International Cooperation and Development, Leo-Angelo Washima speaks on measures to ensure dignified living conditions ahead of the implementation.

At the Ortese IDPs camp, a 5,000-litre daily capacity water project has been executed to support the displaced and their host communities. Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communications, Solomon Iorpev elaborates more.

It is hoped that the new agricultural initiative for the IDPs will boost food security and economic growth.
