The Benue State Government has launched the State IDP Policy which it described as not just a milestone for the State, but a beacon of hope for thousands of our brothers and sisters displaced by conflict and disaster.
State Governor Hyacinth Alia who launched the policy at the Government House Makurdi recalled that on assuming office two years ago, he pledged to ensure that displaced families return home, rebuild their lives, and live with dignity adding that with the support of international partners progress has been made in shelter, protection, and humanitarian assistance.
This has been the State of some residents of the country’s food basket for a protracted period of time with many more joining the make shift arrangement on a daily basis dashing hope of their return to normalcy.
However a ray of hope opens up as the State Government with financial support of the save the children inaugurates the State’s internally displaced persons policy.
A feat the State Governor Hyacinth Alia represented by his deputy Sam Ode says moves the displaced beyond relief to recovery and from temporal support to long term stability.
A social contract he says is between Government, partners and displaced communities to place those affected at the center of every intervention.
You are not forgotten, you are not alone, your resilience inspires us,your future is at the heart of this policy and our durable solutions action plan, where the chief Executive’s words of reassurance and hope to the displaced.
