The Benue State Security Council has approved the establishment of a Bureau of Homeland Security, to coordinate and liaise with the office of the Governor and the security agencies, for swift responses on security matters in the state.
Deputy Governor Sam Ode made this known after the joint security meeting, held at the Benue State Government House, in Makurdi the State capital.
Addressing journalists after the joint State security council meeting, Deputy Governor Sam Ode said council agreed that the Bureau for homeland security be headed by a Director General who will be appointed by the State Governor.
Council equally decided that the curfew in Ukum local government area occasioned by a recent unrest in the Sankera axis of the State should continue and also placed a ban on protests in the said area until futher notice.

The State security council also expressed concern over the increasing number of illegal check points in the State and urged security agencies to work in synergy to effectively combat crime.
The Zonal Commander National Agency for Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP Makurdi Zonal office Gloria Bai gave an update on the Benue Girls who were trafficked to Ivory Coast.
She commended the swift efforts of the State Government to ensure their return and advised parents, guardians of job seekers to be on the look out for such issues of trafficking.
