The Benue State Police Command has announced the repulsion of an attack by suspected armed herdsmen in Awanse community, Kwande Local Government Area, and the rescue of an abducted woman.
A statement by DSP Udeme Edet, its Police Public Relations Officer revealed that police operatives on patrol received a distress report of the attack and swiftly responded, engaging the assailants and forcing them to flee.
The victim was rescued unhurt, and no life was lost during the incident. The police have deployed additional tactical armed personnel to reinforce security and prevent further threats.
In a related development, the police said it recovered five more bodies in Abende community, bringing the total number of fatalities to 10, following an earlier attack on Tuesday February 3rd, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, has assured the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, and vowed to bring perpetrators to justice.
