Benue Soldiers’ Murder: Deputy Chairman, 3 others handed over to security

As the search for the killers of 12 soldiers and the recovery of their weapons intensifies in Benue State north-central Nigeria, the State Security Council says it has handed four persons over to the Police to help in the investigation and arrest of perpetrators.

Governor Samuel Ortom who disclosed this after an expanded Security Council meeting with stakeholders from the affected area gave a breakdown of those involved to include the Deputy Chairman Konshisha Local Government Council, Samuel Kave, a District as well as Kindred Head along with a councilor.

He acknowledged the efforts of the Security Council, traditional rulers led by Tor Jechira, Chief Clement Uganden, and Ter Ikyor, Chief Jam Gbinde as well as political leaders also led to the recovery of eight Ak47 rifles and one machine gun.

The Security Council also resolved that Governor Samuel Ortom leads a delegation to condole with the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari over the killing of the soldiers.

Security Council appreciated the Minister of Defence and other Security Chiefs for allowing the Security Council to manage the situation, saying stakeholders cooperated well in the course of managing the crisis.

On the humanitarian crisis in Konshisha due to the military raid, the Governor said the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, had already visited and assessed the situation with a view to providing relief for the victims.
