Police have arrested a 30-year-old suspect, Umar Sani, for allegedly being in possession of a large cache of live ammunition in Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the State Command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, the arrest took place on Friday, at about 7.20am. Vigilant police operatives stationed at a strategic checkpoint along the Zamfara-Katsina border, in Yankara axis, acted on credible intelligence to intercept the suspect during a routine stop-and-search operation.

Umar Sani, a resident of Magami Village in Gusau Local Government Area, was said to have been apprehended while riding a red boxer motorcycle from Abuja to his hometown.
A thorough search of the motorcycle led to the discovery of 100 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition for AK-47 rifles, cleverly concealed inside the bike’s fuel tank.
The police say the suspect is currently in custody, while detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department continue investigations to determine the source of the ammunition and track down other members of the suspected criminal network.
