Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has been visiting the communities attacked by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

The attacks were unleashed on Tashan Alade, Shaffa and Khiributu communities in Hawul Local Government Area near Chibok in the southern part of the state.

A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Isa Gusau, says Professor Zulum who had been away to Katsina State and Abuja since Thursday for series of activities, cut short his trip following the attacks.

It adds that about four communities, including, Tashan Alade, Shafa, Azare, Sabon-Kasuwa and Debro were affected in Saturday’s attack, with schools, shops and places of worship destroyed by the terrorists.

It further said that three persons were killed in Shafa, among them 2 hunters and a civilian.

The statement said, thousands of bags of farm produce recently harvested by farmers were looted by the terrorists who also emptied shops and market stalls.

Governor Zulum was in Yimirshika, Azare, Sabon-Kasuwa and Shafa where he inspected destroyed property and ordered the immediate reconstruction of the police station, market stalls and others.

In Shafa, Zulum ordered the provision of six patrol vehicles and other components, to strengthen the local security network in the community. Also in Yimirshika, the Governor directed the provision of surveillance vehicles for hunters and vigilantes.

Zulum was said to have addressed the terrified residents who returned to Yimirshika town earlier on Saturday, after attempts by the terrorists on the town, were repelled.

The Governor was said to have told the residents that, “We departed Abuja to Maiduguri this morning, and we are here to show our sympathy and to stand with all of you, our brothers in Hauwl, over the sad incident, yesterday. I have been fully briefed and I have seen things myself, insha’Allah, we will strengthen security here and in all the places.

We will as soon as possible, make available all your requirements, based on my interaction with security stakeholders and community leaders. We will rehabilitate the Police station, the shops and all other infrastructure destroyed yesterday”.

Zulum noted that he feels bad going to commiserate after attacks because protection of lives and property is government’s first priority.

Governor Zulum was accompanied to Hawul communities by the Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, the former Deputy Governor, Usman Durkwa, the Senator representing Southern Borno, Mohammed Ali Ndume and some commissioners.
