The Bonny local government area administration says hard times await criminals elements terrorizing Bonny water-way as it launches a state -of -the -art armored gunboat equipped with modern security gadgets to combat sea pirates terrorizing seafarers traveling to Bonny Island.
Commissioning the gunboat, the council boss, David Irimagha, says it is no longer business as usual for the sea pirates.
Bonny Island is situated on the southern coastal edges of Rivers State in the Niger Delta region, bordering the Atlantic ocean.
Bonny Island and plays host to several multinational oil companies but its waterways have been in recent times under severe attacks by sea pirates terrorizing both visitors and indigenes plying the water-routes.
With the launching and commissioning of the Bonny crime watch fully equipped with a gunboat, it is expected that the activities of the sea pirates will be curtailed.

The local government administration is however, calling on the multinational companies operating in the area to assist in acquiring more gunboats to ensure adequate surveillance of the waterways.
The Bonny water way is an international sea route with several vessels sailing on daily.
