Borno State Government has lifted the 24-hour curfew imposed on the residents of the Maiduguri metropolis and its environs, following Thursday’s nationwide protests, which later went violent and leading to the death of some persons and the destruction of property.
In a live broadcast, Governor Babagana Zulum said: “In view of the relative calm, government in consultation with security agencies, has lifted the 24-hour curfew, today, (Saturday 3rd August, 2024).
” This is to allow residents to come out by 6am to start their normal business activities in an orderly manner.”
“It is unfortunate that some hoodlums hijacked the protest thereby causing havoc to lives and property which is unacceptable.
Zulum says, as the curfew is now lifted, government will not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with anyone who breaks law and order, in the name of protest.
