Angry commuters this Wednesday morning blocked the NTA/Choba Road in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, following the rejection of the old Naira notes by commercial motor vehicle transporters.
The stranded commuters say the action of the transporters, and the refusal of the Central Bank Of Nigeria, CBN, to make the newly redesigned Naira notes available was making life difficult.
Some who are students said the decision of the transporters to obey the CBN’s declaration, that the old notes ceased to be legal tenders was not in the best interest of Nigerians.
They urged the CBN to make the newly redesigned notes available, to reduce the pain, and avoid the breakdown of law and order.
To them, the protest will continue until the CBN and the Federal Government stood up to their responsibilities.
