The main party in Germany’s ruling coalition, the Christian Democratic Union, CDU has elected a new leader, Armin Laschet. He replaces Angela Merkel as party leader and would most likely replace her as Chancellor.
Laschet was elected party leader in a virtual delegates conference as Germany battles second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
