The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has postponed its planned Nationwide Voter Revalidation Exercise until after 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja, on Friday where key electoral matters were reviewed.
In a statement signed by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee,
Mohammed Kudu- Haruna, the Commission says the postponement follows extensive deliberations.
INEC describes the voter revalidation exercise as a vital component of its mandate to maintain a credible and up-to-date National Register of Voters. It adds that the process is intended to verify existing voter records, correct personal data, eliminate duplicate and ineligible entries and enhance the integrity of the voter database.
INEC says the exercise would also provide registered voters the opportunity to confirm and update their details where necessary.
The electoral body reaffirms its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections across Nigeria.
