Nigeria’s House of Representatives has granted speedy approval to President Bola Tinubu’s request for 500 billion Naira for a fuel subsidy palliative.
The president’s request was considered and passed at Thursday’s plenary.
The president’s request sought to amend the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act to extract N500 billion from the budget.
Debating the bill, lawmakers commended the president for the quick intervention, noting that many Nigerians, including them, have struggled to deal with the effects of subsidy removal.
Some others, however, questioned the mode in which the distribution of the palliatives would be implemented.
The lawmakers unanimously okayed the president’s request.
On Wednesday, July 12, the president requested the House to pass the 500 billion Naira from the Supplementary Budget for subsidy palliatives.
