The United States has announced a new policy to restrict visa issuance to individuals who have directed, authorised, or participated in violations of religious freedom in Nigeria and beyond..
The new policy was announced in a statement by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday.
According to the new policy, under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, the State Department will restrict visa issuance to those who have significantly supported or carried out these atrocities, as well as their immediate family members.

This move is seen as a strong stance against radical Islamic terrorists, Fulani ethnic militias, and other violent actors responsible for mass killings and violence against Christians in Nigeria and other countries.

As President Trump emphasized, “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other countries.” This policy will apply to Nigeria and any other governments or individuals engaged in violations of religious freedom.
