National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni on Friday said that it is only the ruling party that can win the election in Ondo State.

Governor Buni said this while speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

He announced that President Buhari gave his endorsement to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who is the candidate of the party in the forthcoming elections. Akeredolu had earlier said that his party will use all civil means to win the election.

Buni was at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to present Governor Akeredolu to President Buhari for his blessing ahead of the flagging off of the party’s campaign.

Buni was accompanied by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, who is the APC National Campaign Committee Chairman for Ondo election, the Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum and Kebbi Governor Atiku Bagudu and Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong.

He maintained that it was only the APC that can win the Ondo election because of the achievements of the incumbent Governor who is the party’s candidate.

Asked how optimistic he was that the APC would win the election bearing in mind that the opposition political parties have also fielded strong candidates, Buni said the track record of the Governor will give the ruling party victory.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said that the achievements of Akeredolu in the past 4 years have made his assignment easier. According to him, “When you have a good product and people have seen and have agreed.. . it makes our job easier. Our good friend and brother, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has not only done well, he is a progressive and he is a man that has stood over the last 4 years, carrying his people along and doing all to ensure that good governance continues in Ondo State.

On his part, Governor Akeredolu said, “Mr. President has given us his blessing, he made one expression and he said this time around he feels more comfortable because the last time he had to be there with us, we had to receive his blessing”.
