In a concerted effort to fortify food security in Cross River State, Governor Bassey Otu has unveiled an ambitious rice plantation project spanning 50,000 hectares in the Ogoja Local Government Area of the state.
This strategic initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to agricultural development and economic prosperity.
Building upon the groundwork laid by previous administrations, Governor Otu’s approach emphasises collaboration with key stakeholders, including farmers and the private sector.
By fostering partnerships and leveraging expertise, the government aims to maximise the project’s impact and ensure its long-term sustainability.
Central to the project is the provision of a credit facility scheme totaling one hundred and fifty million Naira, designed to empower qualified farmers and facilitate their participation in the initiative.
Emmanuel Anor, a prominent figure in the Rice Farm Cluster, noted that the significance of the initiative extends far beyond mere agricultural production.
Beyond its economic implications, the rice plantation project holds transformative potential for the region, promising to uplift livelihoods and stimulate socio-economic development.
