Following pleas by the Cross River State Governor Senator Bassey Otu, the Nigerian Medical Association, has suspended its 40-day-old strike to show sensitivity to the plight of the citizenry.
Briefing newsmen in Calabar on the suspension of the strike, the Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, in Cross River state, Dr Felix Archibong,said the decision to suspend the industrial action was reached at an emergency meeting of the association.

Archibong said the union will go back on strike if any of its members is kidnapped again in Cross River State, demanding that security agencies come out with facts on why Doctors have become targets of kidnappers.
The Association called for the unconditional release of their colleague, Professor Ekanem Ephraim unhurt.
Doctors from public and private hospitals in Cross River State have been on strike over the kidnap of Professor Ekanem who was whisked away by unidentified gunmen to an unknown destination.
