Calabar-Itu Road:communities threaten to stop project

Odukpani Communities In Cross River State have threatened to stop the ongoing dualization project of Calabar Itu federal highway over non payment of compensation by the federal government.

In a Statement issued in Calabar and signed by the Clan head of the affected communities who was the former Nigeria ambassador to Uganda,Etubom Nya Asuquo, stated that the legal tussle is imminent if the insensitivity of the contractors handling the project persist.

The Former Envoy called on the Federal Government to listen to the cry of the affected communities for the payment of compensation on their destroyed properties and economic means of livelihood.

Ambassador Asuquo, explained that the Community lawyers have been directed to commence legal process to draw Federal government attention to the lingering issue of lack of payment of compensation to the affected persons whose property have been. Destroyed

He drew the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to a memo forwarded to Akwa Ibom government by the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola SAN, on the same issue as the basis of their conviction , saying unless they act fast , the project may be abandoned by the Contractors.

He noted that the only means of survival which was their farmland and nature’s given economic trees have now been destroyed.

The Monarch who was appointed by president Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 as Nigeria Ambassador to Uganda is a foundation member of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Cross River State.
