More calls have been made for a thorough constitutional review and a revisit of the issue of restructuring in Nigeria

The calls came from speakers at the 14th Emeka Anyaoku Lecture Series on Good Governance, held in Enugu.

They argued that the transformational leadership Nigerians yearn for cannot be realized under the current system.

At this year’s lecture themed “The Imperative of Good Governance in Nigeria,” keynote speaker Professor Ibrahim Gambari and event Chairman, General Ike Nwachukwu (retired), agreed that poor leadership and bad governance have been major barriers to Nigeria’s sustainable development

They warned that progress will remain a mirage unless the nation restructures its governance framework.

Host Governor, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, emphasized the urgency of investing in the country’s youth and harnessing their immense potential for national development.

Elder statesman Emeka Anyaoku echoed these sentiments, stressing that Nigeria’s constitution must be redesigned to support and reward good governance.

Chief Emeka Anyaoku, is a Nigerian global statesman and the first African to serve as Commonwealth Secretary-general

For the past 13 years, the annual lecture series in his name has served as a forum for reflection, national dialogue, and the pursuit of excellence in leadership and governance.
