Camels which are among the beasts of burden and nicknamed “ship of the desert” are now becoming the most sought after animals in Kano State ahead of the Eid el-kabir festival.
The attraction to the animal is said to be health related. Until now people preferred cows or rams as sacrificial animal.
Suddenly, Kofar Naisa in Kano metropolis became busy with camels sellers enjoying patronage few weeks to the sallah festivity. According to the traders, the reason why people go for the animal is because it is cheaper and has more health benefits than other animals.
Though people here are not used to eating camel’s meat, the traders say market exists for it as people are beginning to appreciate its benefits.
People with low budget often contribute money to buy cows and share the meat but when compared to camels the cost is higher.
