The Enugu State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN is joining voices with concerned Nigerians and bodies on the over six-month-old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
The umbrella Christian body is cautioning the Nigerian Government not to bring politics into the country’s university education system.
CAN insists that the Nigerian government has what it takes to end the prolonged ASUU strike if it is willing to do so.
In a chat with the Chairman of CAN in Enugu State, Reverend Emmanuel Edeh, he described the lingering strike as unfortunate, and a deliberate attempt by the Nigerian Federal Government to collapse the university education system in the country.
The Christian body appealed to the stakeholders and every other concerned citizen in the country to intervene in the crisis.
CAN is worried that the over six months ASUU strike has already pushed many students into various crimes, and needs an urgent solution.
The religious body is calling on both the government and the striking university lecturers to agree, and save the Nigerian students, who have been forced to stay out of the classroom for so long.
