Canada has lifted travel restriction imposed on Nigeria over the Omicron variant of the COVID-19.
It has also lifted restrictions placed on other African countries.
Canada’s Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos announced the government’s decision on Friday.
According to him, the restrictions were to enable Canada prepare how to handle the Omicron crisis, but with it spreading fast, travel bans were no longer necessary.

Instead, the government intends to enforce pre-arrival tests for foreign travelers entering the country. Canada has reported an estimated three hundred and fifty Omicron cases.
The lifting of the travel ban on Nigeria follows similar action by the United Kingdom after Nigeria threatened to impose reciprocal travel ban.
