Political leaders in Nigeria have been asked to emulate the exemplary leadership style of Jesus Christ, which is ‘to serve and not to be served’.
This was the submission of the officiating priest at this year’s Caritas Nigerian Day celebration at the Catholic Secretariat in Abuja, with the theme, “Giving Back To The Community”.
The event started with a Holy mass officiated by the Catholic Bishop of Wukari Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Mark Maigida Nzunkwein, who noted that Caritas Nigeria has always propagated unity, while encouraging parishioners to be united.
Addressing Journalists shortly after the mass, Bishop Nzunkwein said the government can do a lot more to reduce the current sufferings of Nigerians.
He encouraged the youths to think outside the box for positive initiatives that will bring lasting peace and development, assuring that with resilience, there will be light at the end of the tunnel for the country.
The Caritas Executive Secretary, Rev. Fr. Uche Obodoechina said the 14th anniversary of Caritas Nigeria means a lot, and encouraged the staff to be compassionate and have empathy in touching lives and returning to humanity.
Governments at all levels in the country were urged to replicate the sanity, leadership style and infrastructural development they see abroad to make the country better.
