Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has elected the Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Reverend Matthew Man’oso Ndagoso as its new president
Following his election, Archbishop Ndagoso is automatically and immediately appointed as head of establishments of the CBCN, including assuming the position as visitor to Veritas University Abuja.
A statement by the Head, Corporate Affairs and Communications of the university, Ben Agande, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Hyacinth Ichoku said under the new appointments.
Archbishop Ndagoso replaces Archbishop Lucious Ugorji of the Owerri Archdiocese who stepped down after serving a four-year tenure as CBCN president.
The statement said, similarly, the Bishop of Aba Diocese, Most Reverend Professor Augustine Echema has been appointed the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of Veritas University, taking over from Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of Sokoto Diocese who served for a period of four years.
Before their election and appointments, Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagaso continues to serve as the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Kaduna Archdiocese, after he had earlier served as the Bishop of Maiduguri Diocese before he was elevated to the Archbishopric of Kaduna in 2007.
Ndagaso studied Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas and ordained a priest on 4th of October 1986.
While Bishop Augustine Echema who was appointed the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Veritas University, was
born on December 28, 1958, earned a Doctorate of Theology from the Philosophich-Theologische Hochschule Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt, Germany after which he joined the Faculty of the Catholic Institute of West Africa, CIWA in Portharcourt, Rivers state.
It was at CIWA that Echema rose to the rank of Professor of Liturgy.
