Dealers of building materials and other operators in the construction industry have expressed worry over the current astronomical increase in the price of cement in Nigeria.
In an interview with AIT, some cement dealers in Bayelsa State complained bitterly that a bag of the product which sold at N2,600 at the last quarter of 2020 now sells between N4000 and N4500 in the state.
They lamented that the sharp increase has adversely reduced construction work in the State, thereby worsening the rate of unemployment in the country.

Cement is at the heart of the housing industry in Nigeria but a recent hike in the price attributed to export of the product to other countries has taken a terrible toll on the sector in Bayelsa State.
To resolve the situation, the dealers and other critical stakeholders called for a national action that will encourage more competition among cement manufacturers in the country.
