The widespread problem facing the Nigerian universities which include poor staffing, funding and weak infrastructure have been identified as the major factors militating against the progress of Nigerian universities to compete favourably with their foreign counterparts.
Vice-Chancellor of the Niger Delta University Amassoma, Southern Ijaw council area of Bayelsa State, professor Samuel Edoumiekumo who was recently inaugurated as the chairman, committee of Vice-Chancellors said the problems can best be tackled if the federal government give priority attention to the challenges facing Nigerian Universities.

He said government funding for universities have been a far cry from what the institutions need to solve most of its problems, According to Professor Edoumiekumo, it is sad to note that no Nigerian University is in the top 60 brackets in world rankings.
The newly inaugurated chairman of the body, Professor Samuel Edoumiekumo is to oversee the body for the next two years.
