Checking Destructive Tendency of Parkinson Disease In Nigeria, Africa

A Report by the World Health Organisation WHO has shown that cases of Parkinson’s Disease across Africa will rise significantly in the coming Years, with more than five million Nigerians at risk.

To avoid the prediction from being a reality and to improve the quality of lives for Persons already living with the Condition, Some neurologist from across Nigeria are calling for multi Disciplinary Approach to check its escalation, subsidised cost of medicines and awareness campaigns.

Parkinson Disease is a disorder that affects the central Nervous system. It results in nerve Cells damage in the brain thereby causing dopamine level to drop.

Often associated with tremors, slow movement and loss of balance, Persons living with the condition in Nigeria are often subjected to stigmatization.

Apart from the social stigma, the high cost of medicines and limited care centres in Nigeria are other issues that people with the condition have to grapple with.

Though Parkinson Disease has no cure for now, early treatment, intervention experts say can improve quality of life for affected persons.
