Cholera outbreak

The people of Aguobiri Community in Southern Ijaw Council Area of Bayelsa State have raised alarm over a cholera outbreak, which according to them, has claimed no fewer than 15 lives.

Members of the community attributed the development to the blockage and subsequent stagnation of a river, which is their primary source of water by the company handling the Bayelsa West Senatorial Road project.

The ongoing road construction project to open up areas in the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, from Yenagoa the, capital city to Oporoma town, headquarters of southern Ijaw council area is among the top priority projects of the Bayelsa State Government.

The project which ordinarily should have been a thing of joy has however become a matter of sadness for Aguobiri indigenes in southern Ijaw Council, who say the blockage of the Sylva River running through their community, is the reason for their present woes.
Aguobiri community members while asking the project contractors, the Chinese Civil Engineering Company and the Douye Diri administration for aid, expressed sadness over the abandonment of a link road project, awarded by former Governor Seriake Dickson to connect the community to the main senatorial road.
