Following the Cholera outbreak in Lagos State, Southwest region of Nigeria which initially reported 350 suspected cases and 15 fatalities, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Dr Kemi Ogunyemi, has given an update, where he said more suspected new cases have been recorded, bringing the total to 401.
The Lagos Island, Kosofe, and Eti Osa Council Areas recorded the highest numbers.
Dr. Ogunyemi revealed this while providing an update on the Cholera outbreak after meeting with members of the Lagos State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC).

She explained that the death toll has also risen to 21, an increase of six from the previously reported 15 fatalities, putting the total number of deaths at 21.
The health expert notes that the rise in cases of the Cholera spread may not be unconnected to the recent Ileya festivities, during which large gatherings occurred.
She however told ait.live that suspected cases are subsiding across the LGAs, particularly in previously affected Council Areas due to the Lagos State Government interventions and surveillance efforts.
The Special Adviser stated that the State Government, through the Ministry of Health and other sister agencies, is maintaining rigorous surveillance and monitoring of the situation and implementing planned programs and activities to curb the spread.
She advised that citizens should seek medical attention immediately, if they experience symptoms such as watery diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, general malaise, and fever, stressing that treatment for cholera is provided free of charge at all public health facilities.
