The Rivers State Government has confirmed that nine persons have died from a suspected cholera outbreak in some communities in the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh,who confirmed the development during a news briefing in Port Harcourt, said the death occurred in Andoni and
Akuku-Toru local government areas.
The health commissioner added that the nine deaths are among the 41 suspected cases reported so far in the state.
Oreh also noted that the state government through its Ministry of Health has put appropriate measures in place to contain the spread of the disease.
Cholera is an accute diarrhoea and it thrives in areas with poor water and sanitation.
