Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara has reaffirmed his acceptance of the Presidential peace proclamation and commitment to implementing both its spirit and letter in a way and manner that will restore political stability to the state without compromising the collective interest of the people and democratic values.

While acknowledging the mixed reactions the agreement has generated, the Governor in his Christmas Day broadcast to the people says he has taken time to study the terms and came to the conclusion that the peace pact is not as bad as it is being portrayed by those genuinely opposed to it, saying that it offers some way towards a lasting peace and stability in Rivers State

In the spirit of humility, love and the sacrifice that the birth and teachings of Jesus Christ have come to represent, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has wholeheartedly decided to embrace and abide by the terms of the December 18, 2023 Peace Agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the political crisis arising from the dispute between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike

But, the Presidential Peace Agreement has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians within and outside the country

While a few have applauded it, many have vehemently condemned it; accusing President Tinubu of arm twisting the Rivers State Governor into accepting the deal.

Parties to the agreement have so far demonstrated good faith to the implementation process, with the withdrawal of the purported impeachment notice on the Governor and the release of the withheld allowances of members of the Rivers State House of Assembly by the Government.

While thanking the people for their massive support, Governor Sim Fubara says he is optimistic that Rivers State will witness a speedy transformation in 2024 with the completion of a number of key projects and programmes such as sections of the Port Harcourt Ring Road, the Andoni section of the Unity Road and the Emohua-Degema Road among others.
