Technology’s widespread use has given rise to the possibility of revolutionising digital governance and the provision of public services, upending established norms in the process and boosting democratic engagement.

Even though Nigeria faces many challenges, civic technology has made significant progress in encouraging engagement in civic life, closing the gap between citizens and the government, and raising the demand for accountability to ensure that governance serves the interests of the people.

According to this analysis by Civic Hive, given its capabilities and supporting data to develop solutions for numerous problems faced by Nigerians, civic tech and innovation have grown in strength over the past ten years. This is also because social media and the internet have become much more popular in Nigeria in recent years, which has encouraged participation from stakeholders and individuals on civic tech platforms.

Speaking about the report, Mr Joseph Amenaghawon, Civic Hive Lead, stated: “The report offers a one-stop opportunity for enthusiasts of civic-tech and gov-tech to appreciate the journey to date, peep into the future, and deeply understand the challenges so far and the prospects for innovations.” It is an enormous asset for everyone.

The goal of Civic Hive’s Civic Tech Landscape Report is to establish an accessible, current research and knowledge base that highlights innovations and stakeholders in the civic tech field. This will help to enhance advocacy, fortify systems, and facilitate decision-making throughout the entire spectrum of civic tech usage and beyond. The paper outlines the principal obstacles, deficiencies, prospects, and suggestions regarding the use of municipal technology by Nigerian stakeholders. The Civic Hive website offers a download for the report.

The objectives of Civic Hive, BudgIT’s innovation hub, are to foster the growth of new civic tech leaders, establish a creative environment for collaborations, assist emerging civic tech organizations, and bolster the capabilities of Nigeria’s already-existing NGOs. Their groundbreaking civic tech landscape research was released to have a significant impact on the Nigerian civic tech sector.
