Civil Defence and government officials arrested for allegedly stealing rail tracks

The Nasarawa State Police Command has paraded 67 suspected criminals at the police headquarters in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

Among the suspects are government officials and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC.

The Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe while parading the suspects said criminal elements have turned the Nigerian railway tracks in the state to gold mines as they vandalise and cart them away.

He said the rail tracks are those that pass through villages in the state.

Longe also informed newsmen that the state police command had developed a strategic anti-vandalism template to arrest the tide of this unwholesome scenario which has helped in capturing some of the vandals along Agyaragu Tofa in Lafia Local Goverment area of Nasarawa state

Among the suspects arrested are personnels of the Criminal investigative department of the Nigerian Security Civil Defense Corps in lafia and civil servants working with the state government.

The Commissioner of Police said extensive investigation into the case is being carried out emphasizing that, it is a case of sabotage being perpetrated by unpatriotic Nigerians.
