Civil society organizations in Nigeria have recommended a list of reforms for the electoral act 2022 and the country’s constitution.
The recommendations were made public in Abuja on Wednesday during the presentation of its Citizens Memorandum. The proposed amendment which focuses on three main pillars of legal framework, is aimed at strengthening the provisions in the constitution and the electoral act to ensure fairness, transparency and inclusivity.
It recommended sixteen key reforms of the electoral act, including the unbundling of INEC , compulsory electronic transmission and result management processes.
The groups say their twenty one recommended constitutional alterations are centred towards achieving greater independence and professionalism of INEC and the state electoral commissions particularly in the area of appointments of key personnel.
