The Nigerian Army has called for the full integration of drone warfare and combat aviation into its operations and training structure.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, made the call at the closing of the 2026 Combat Arms Training Week in Kaduna.
The training week provided a platform for operational review, innovation, and professional engagement aimed at strengthening combat readiness.
Addressing participants, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu stressed the need to institutionalise drone training across Army formations to prepare troops for emerging security threats.
He noted that modern warfare has become increasingly complex and technology-driven, making unmanned aerial systems and combat aviation critical to military operations.
The Army Chief also advocated the expansion of combat aviation, noting that effective coordination between infantry, armour, and aviation units would enhance operational flexibility and combat effectiveness.
The Nigerian Army says lessons from the training week will help refine operational strategies and strengthen ongoing counterterrorism and counter-insurgency operations across the country.
