Troops of the Nigerian Army have been urged to decisively execute their assigned responsibility professionally, in line with best practices and respect the rights of law-abiding citizens.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, made the call during the Human Rights Lecture and Sensitization Workshop for Soldiers in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
The troops of the Nigerian Army are currently prosecuting war against bandits and other criminal elements in the Northwest Zone of the country.
In doing this, they are expected to respect the rights of law-abiding citizens and protect their properties.
This explains the one-day Human Rights Lecture and Sensitization Workshop for Soldiers, aimed at acquainting them with human rights laws, and the need to operate within the rule of engagement, while decisively, and conclusively dealing with the bandits and other criminal elements.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, reminded the troops to conduct themselves as responsible and patriotic citizens, in and out of official duty, because this is critical as the Nigerian Army is involved in numerous operations within Nigeria and outside its shores.

The Commander of One Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in Gusau, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, represented by J. Umaru, said the Nigerian Army troops are making efforts to contain the security threats in the Northwest, which informed the Army’s participation in internal security operations.
The Nigerian Army Human Rights Lecture and Sensitization Workshop for Soldiers, with the theme, “The Proper Conduct of the Nigerian Soldier Within the Larger Society,” is to remind troops to adhere to relevant laws, and avoid actions that would have negative implication on the lives of citizens and their civil liberties.
