The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (P-CNGi) initiative, Friday, launched the Ogun State version of the Conversion Incentive Programme (CIP) in continuation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment towards achieving the conversion of one million petroleum vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by year 2027.
P-CNGi Programme Director, Michael Oluwagbemi while presenting the free CNG conversion kits to four Conversion Partners (CP) that signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in Abeokuta, said the initiative is part of President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda at cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
Addressing the stakeholders in the transportation sector and captains of industries at the launching, Oluwagbemi said the initiative will promote cleaner, safer and more reliable environment in Nigeria.
Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Energy, Jide Onakoya, described the programme as a game-changer for Ogun State, enabling citizens to switch from expensive petrol and diesel to cheaper gas.
According to the P-CNGi Programme Director, beneficiaries expected for the conversion programme will be by nomination from the three major transport unions which included the National Union of Road Transport Union (NURTW), that of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), as well as Uber, Bolt and Oval drivers among others in the nation’s transportation sector.
