Some concerned Nigerians are decrying the incessant extortions and harassment of road users by police personnel and other law enforcement officers deployed to highways across the country.
A group, Youth and Students Advocates for Development Initiative, at a one-day sensitization workshop on Human Rights and Traffic Rules organized for Transport Unions urged the national Union of roads transport workers to join in the campaign to end the menace.
Among those in attendance were law enforcement agencies, and imo stakeholders who have come to brainstorm on how to curb the problem of extortions on the highways.
Speaking at the event, the guest speaker at the workshop, Ahamefula Amaramiro, and others
insisted that if road users, especially the commercial drivers would stop the attitude of cutting corners or defaulting on traffic rules, corrupt law enforcement agents would not have the impetus to openly demand for bribe.
Convener of the event, Obinna Nwagba said the workshop became pertinent to sensitize and challenge concerned Nigerians to stand against the menace in the country, especially in the South East region.
The forum however advised vehicle owners to obtain vehicle particulars, and also urged drivers to always observe traffic rules and signs to avoid confrontation with traffic wardens.
