More concerns have been raised over the recent spate of deaths among medical practitioners especially in Lagos state.

The latest alarm follows the reported deaths of three principal medical officers at the Alimosho General Hospital in Lagos State

The deceased doctors were named in a statement released by the Medical Guild Association of Lagos State Government employed doctors as Doctors Otukoya, Aluko and Shuaib.

Shuaib, who died on Monday (September 25), is the latest fatality.

The Medical Guild in the statement said that the “deaths might have been connected to one form of chronic illness or others issues believed to have been aggravated by stress occasioned by the brain drain in the health sector.

The resolutions taken by Members Of The Guild at the end of an emergency meeting over the deaths, include a three-day mourning period to be observed across the Lagos State Health System.

“In Alimosho General Hospital, the center where the three late colleagues practised, All elective procedures are to be rescheduled within the period. Only emergencies are expected to be attended to”.

The Doctors have also issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the state government to begin meaningful engagement with the Medical Guild on all welfare matters affecting doctors in Lagos State.
