The Nigeria Police in Bauchi State Command, has confirmed the arrest of eight suspects in connection with a conflict between revenue collection agents and commercial motorcycle riders in the Bauchi metropolis.

According to the police, the arrests followed an incident that occurred on January 24, 2026, at about 2:27 p.m., after intelligence reports indicated that a commercial motorcyclist, Ayuba Abdullahi, was allegedly attacked by revenue agents near Wunti Gate, behind the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi. The attack was reportedly linked to his refusal to comply with multiple tax collections.

The motorcyclist sustained injuries, which prompted his colleagues to stage a protest at the riders’ union office located at Muda Lawal.

Upon receiving the report, a joint police team comprising personnel from A, B, and C Divisional Police Headquarters, Operation Restore Peace, and the Rapid Response Squad swiftly moved to the scene, addressed the crowd, and successfully dispersed the protesters.

The statement further disclosed that four suspects directly involved in the unrest were arrested.

They include Naziru Yakubu of Railway Quarters, Tanimu Shuaibu of Jahun, Danjuma Abdul of Miri, and Muktar Sale of Kobi.

It added that four additional suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalising the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) along Gombe Road and the BAROTA building, both within the Bauchi metropolis.

With the situation now under control, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for their prompt response and appreciated the Bauchi State Joint Motorcycle and Tricycle Riders’ Association, as well as members of the public, for their cooperation. He called on residents to go about their normal activities peacefully.
