Over thirty submissions were received from groups, religious, traditional institutions and individuals seeking alterations or amendments to the 1999 constitution at the North East center for Gombe, Bauchi and Taraba states held in Gombe.
Amongst the submissions were those from groups calling for new states carved out from existing states, local governments and a special reservation for women to be elected in Nigeria’s Legislature.

Strong representations from the three states of Gombe, Taraba and Bauchi filled the hall during the exercise held by the House Of Representatives Committee on review of the constitution.
Apart from the groups calling for creation of more states in the north east, women too clamoured for a stronger representation in elective offices, stating that they are prepared for the challenges.
