Describing the incident as unfortunate, the acting Customs Area Comptroller, Dalha Wada said, adequate measures have been put in place, including the constitution of an investigative and disciplinary committee to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident.

He added that, though there is no time frame for submitting the report, the committee is saddled with the responsibility of doing a thorough job, considering the personality involved.

Wada while assuring the public that as soon as the result of the investigation is out, it will be published, warned against further recurrence, and urged officers and men to be more professional, going forward.

On the seizures made, spanning from August 4 to September 6, the Katsina acting Customs Area Comptroller said, the command and the Federal Government are winning the war against the anti-smuggling policy, with a total reduction in the amount and quantum of seizures made.

Among the items seized are, 12 assorted vehicles worth 56 million Naira, while diet and non-food items are, 9.2 million Naira, in duty paid value.

Wada further added that the quantum of foreign rice smuggled into the country through the different border areas has reduced from the usual trailer loads to the present 126 bags.

Items seized within the period under review are cartons of foreign spaghetti, macaroni, couscous, and milky creamer.

Others are 121 pieces of gas cylinders of various sizes, 128 Jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit of 25 litres each, 5 wraps of second-hand clothing, and 6 bags of foreign fertilizer.
