Federal High Court Abuja has disqualified Sheriff Oborevwori, as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Delta State for the 2023 Governorship election.

Sherriff, who is the current Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly was the preferred candidate of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who is now the PDP vice presidential candidate. He emerged victorious at the May 25 primary election, with David Edevbie coming second.

The decision nullifying his candidature was handed down by Justice Taiwo Taiwo on Thursday while delivering judgment in a case initiated by Edevbie seeking Oborevwori’s disqualification from the 2023 governorship election on the grounds that he presented false information and forged documents in his sworn affidavits submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In the suit, Edevbie submitted that his rival had used the names Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orohwedor interchangeably in his certificates submitted to INEC.

Having examined the documentary evidence and established the allegations to be true, the judge ordered INEC and the PDP to recognise Edevbie as the party’s candidate in the 2023 governorship election in Delta State.

David Edevbie, is a former Commissioner for Finance in Delta state and had served as Principal Secretary to late former President, Umaru Musa Yar’adua.
