A Kano Magistrate Court has granted bail to the suspended Chairman of the state’s anti-corruption agency and governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Muhuyi Magaji.
Magaji was arraigned by the police on one count charge before a magistrate court situated in No-man’s-land for giving false information.
The embattled anti-corruption boss was arrested in Abuja on Thursday, shortly after undergoing screening as a governorship aspirant, under the Peoples Democratic Party, for the Kano gubernatorial race.
During the arraignment, the prosecuting counsel, Ibrahim Wada, informed the court, how the defendant tendered five forged medical documents, before the Kano State House of Assembly, all in a bid not to honour their invitation.
Muhuyi Magaji had in July 2021 been summoned by the state assembly, on issues bordering on his rejection of the accountant sent to his office for official duty.
The defending counsel, Mohammed Dan Azumi, maintained that his client never tabled a forged document.
The presiding magistrate, Aminu Gabari, said all will be determined during the hearing.
The defending counsel then applied that his client be granted bail, a position that was objected by the prosecuting counsel, for fear that the defendant may likely jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Aminu Gabari, in his ruling, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two surety, which should include the maternal or paternal relations of the defendant and the Chief Imam of Sharada, or Ja’en Jumat Mosque.
He also directed the defendant to submit his travel documents to the court.
The case has been adjourned to May 4th for further hearing.
