The Court of Appeal Abuja has set aside the decision of the lower court and affirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of Labour Party, LP.
Delivering judgement in the appeal filed by Abure challenging the decision of the trial court, Justice Barka, leading a three-member panel of Justices of the Court of Appeal held that his appeal has merit and was accordingly allowed.
Justice Hamman Barka who delivered the lead judgement held that the lower court was wrong to have assumed jurisdiction over the matter and restrained Abure and two others from parading themselves as national officers of the Labour Party. The court also awarded a cost of N1 million in favour of Abure and others.
Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court had last year granted an ex-parte order, directing Julius Abure and two other national officers to stop parading themselves as leaders of the party for allegedly forging national documents.
Following the 2023 presidential poll in which LP’s Peter Obi came third, Abure has been in a protracted legal conflict with Apapa who laid claim to the party’s chairmanship.
