The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the interim forfeiture of nine properties allegedly linked to former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, to the Federal Government.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu granted the order following an ex-parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A certified true copy of the ruling obtained by AIT stated that the properties, suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, are to remain in the custody of the Federal Government pending further proceedings.
The court also directed the EFCC to publish the order in at least two national newspapers within seven days, inviting interested parties to show cause why the assets should not be permanently forfeited.
The properties, located in Abuja districts including Maitama, Wuse, Garki, Mpape, and Dakibiyu, include residential and office buildings. One of the structures is reportedly occupied by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
The matter was adjourned to May 25 for a compliance report.
